The controversy around #KAYAFM maybe is the perfect storm for the station to get the attention it needs, so that people can start listening to it. After all, a bad PR is good PR – Public Relations. The board must act decisively and protect the brand so far it’s taking a beating!
I also feel that the station is doing a disservice to itself for not addressing the issues at hand and taking forever to release a statement. The egos of the radio personalities are hurting the brand and putting the station in disrepute. #KAYAFM #HomeOfTheAfropolitans
Here’s a back story:
City Press reported that the Kaya FM board had allegedly fired station manager Sibongile Mtyali over her refusal to get rid of the station’s newly appointed sports presenter Mpho Maboi.
Maboi was reportedly in the line of fire after a disagreement with Sizwe Dhlomo who hosts Kaya Drive, the station’s afternoon show.
They reportedly disagreed over the fact that Dhlomo wanted Maboi to report for duty two hours ahead of her stipulated work hours and one hour earlier than she already agreed to show up as per her contract. The radio host and businessman found himself trending on Sunday after being named at the centre of controversy at Kaya FM.
The sudden nature of Unathi Nkayi’s dismissal from Kaya FM which left listeners of the station puzzled was allegedly a result of a fight between Sizwe and Unathi.
Any movie producer out there must write a television series or a sequel about KAYA FM, there’s too much content at the home of Afropolitans.
